Today is the day...

that many believe we'll leave this planet to be lifted into heaven. Harold Camping and his following believe this. And have traveled across the globe to promote it.
And although the day isn't over yet...(there's still time, anything's possible ya know), the bulk of us are still here making our appointed rounds.

I believe in Jesus Christ, as a matter of fact, He is my God and Savior. And I believe that what He says is true, even to the "catching up" of the saints! I just don't quite believe Harold. The Bible says (or to be more specific, Jesus says)..."for of that hour (when Christ returns to catch up the believers), and day, no man knoweth"...and I tend to believe Him.

The only thing that Harold and those of his ilk seem to forget here, is the very words that Christ Himself have stated concerning that bit of truth. And it only sets up the Christian community, yet again, as a laughable and antiquated lot that can be poked fun at by the likes of the Bill Mahr's and anyone else on the outskirts of Christendom. Media has had a field day with it, of course. And the many non-believing people are one step further away from knowing the absolute peace and joy that a committment to Jesus Christ can bring them.

On such a beautiful day, it is reassuring to have that unshakable peace within. Despite the nay-sayers, the dis-believing, the taunter's and ridiculers...and yes, even the mis-guided who think they have one up on every one else and can proclaim prophetical events despite what Christ Himself has told us to the contrary.

To Harold and his lot, next time don't quit your day jobs. I firmly believe, if we are to go by examples laid out for us in scripture, that we are to be living our lives daily in anticipation. Doing the normal things that constitute a full day of life with an eye and ear open for that time to come. Telling others that we are what we are and not perfect, but able to believe regardless of what's going on in the world around us and ready to go in a moment's notice, the blink of an eye. Trying to do our best in a world that often does it's worst against us. Helping others with the kindness of Christ through our hands and the ways in which we relate to others.

That time will come. And the world in general will not have time to taunt and ridicule...for the ones who will be leaving won't be around to hear it. And those who are left will rationalize it away. But what Harold and his cohorts have done for sure, is make the rest of us gird up and stand at attention. To realize we need to pay attention to what's going on in the world around us a little more and not be "caught up" in the details of the immediate day to day.

Our spiritual lives count. A great deal actually. And our spiritual health sometimes gets shoved to the back burner on low heat. So, if you haven't thought about taking your mind, body, spirit inventory of late to see how you rate, maybe Harold can serve as a prompt to do just that.

How long has it been since you've picked up a Bible and read it in earnest?
When our spirit is neglected, we become vulnerable to every spiritual virus floating in the air out there to date, and taking a good look around these days...there are an abundance of them.

If you're still here and reading this, and I'm sure you are...just like me, you can be thankful for the Harold's of the world who cause us to stop and really consider how we're doing as Christians. As for me, I need to get off this thing. I have a lot of work ahead of me today!
